The Storehouse
In the 1800s you were a long way from the nearest shop. It would have taken a day for you to travel to Warwick on horse back, and about one week to travel to Brisbane, so it was essential that the homestead be reasonably self sufficient. Old Historic photos show a large store house located where the driveway currently is today. The old Storehouse is center-right of the photo.
The Storehouse features a large overhanging roof and was lined on the inside not the outside (boards nailed to inside of beams). Click image to enlarge. In keeping with this sprit we have a small storehouse which contains some very basic canned foods. The storehouse works on an honesty system. Simply use the key on your bedroom key ring to open the door and take what you need. Leave some cash or an IOU in the cash tin.
