Amongst the towering gums you can often hear the jingle of chains or the stomping of hooves as our resident draft horse patiently goes about his work pulling a cart or snigging a log. Reminiscent of a bygone era, the original one horse power is sometimes used on the property and is partial to a pat and a carrot.... or three!

This is 'Mister Blue' he's a 16hh Percheron x Clydesdale Draft Horse. Blue came to call Braeside home about 2 years ago and while he is mostly seen pleasure driving around the property he has also represented Braeside at local agricultural shows.

Whilst insurance restricts us from giving rides to guests we welcome you to enjoy the ambience of chains jingling and hooves thudding as this gentle giant goes about about his work. You could be forgiven for thinking you had stepped back in time when stores were delivered by dray and produce taken to market or the train station.

The road less travelled

Whilst a team of working horses would have once worked the land and much larger wagons and drays used to cart wool, hay and grain the spring carts were a general utility vehicle used to go to town and for general deliveries.

Blue is a medium draft horse and would have been used for general driving, deliveries and light farm work.

Blue is also helping to train Samuel in harness. Samuel, a four year old standardbred gelding came to us recently from a trotting stable. He was too small and slow for racing and we are endeavouring to teach him to slow down and will be used for pleasure driving and maybe some local shows.
