Replacing the Creek water tank.

The Homestead has 2 water tanks, a 20,000 gallon fresh water tank which is filled by water from the roof of the homestead, and a smaller 5,000 gallon tank on the Tank stand. The 5,000 gallon tank stores water from the creek and is used to water the garden and provide water to flush the toilets.

The old creek water tank was made of PVC and installed in the 90s. It was an early version of the very popular PVC tanks that you see everywhere today. The problem with it was that it was created using vertical seams rather than the continuous molding methods used now. The result was it leaked like a sieve around the seams, as soon as one hole was fixed, another appeared.

PVC Tank

When we decided to replace it rather than replace it with a new PVC tank, we noted the old historic photos showed a corrugated iron tank perched high on a tank stand in the middle of the yard.

Very Old Tank

So in keeping with the historic theme we selected a tank made of Aquaplate, since corrugated Iron tanks are no longer made. In addition to the same look, we also wanted the property name on the side of the tank, this was a common feature on properties at the time. This turned out to be a bit more challenging than we thought as we had trouble finding a sign-writer who could work with the Aquaplate. Most sign-writers now days seem to focus on just printing vinyl letters.
